Doors and windows in Alsager

Select Window Systems is a family firm with years of experience installing replacement windows and doors for all types of property in the Alsager area, domestic and commercial.

We are one of the region's leading door and window installation companies. We offer an extensive range of products from leading manufacturers and suppliers.

Our fitted windows and doors are high-quality, energy-efficient, secure and require little maintenance. They come in a wide range of colours and finishes, giving customers in the Alsager area years of enjoyment at an affordable price.

Replacement windows

Our uPVC-fitted windows are long-lasting and low-maintenance. uPVC is a durable, weatherproof material for window frames that will not warp, rot, flake or rust. uPVC windows are also energy-efficient, with up to A+ energy ratings for double-glazed windows.

uPVC is the most popular choice for our Alsager customers and offers a range of colours that will not discolour over time. Wood grain finishes can look as natural as traditional timber frames without the drawback of high maintenance. Replacement uPVC windows look their best on more modern properties, urban estates and terraced homes.

Aluminium windows are strong and more robust than other frame materials. Fitted aluminium windows have thinner frames that accommodate larger glass areas, letting in more light. Aluminium does not corrode, and the powder-coated finishes offer a range of colours.

Thermal efficiency technology has advanced significantly, so aluminium windows now have energy ratings almost as good as uPVC. Though most often used in commercial developments, aluminium windows also look good in domestic properties.

Select Window Systems is an approved fitter for Sternfenster , the UK's leading manufacturer of window and door products. Customers can choose from a vast catalogue of sash, flush sash, casement, and tilt-and-turn windows. They also offer a wide selection of stylish sliding patio doors and bi-folds, with a range of styles, colours, and finishes.

Replacement doors installed

We provide and fit a wide range of replacement doors for domestic and commercial properties throughout the Alsager area. We have the skills and experience to supply and install quality interior and exterior doors for homes and businesses.

Most people who ring us about doors in Alsager have already done their homework. They have looked at composite doors online, priced a few front doors, and found more options than they expected. They want a straight answer about which door suits their house and what it costs. In our experience, that beats any brochure.

When you order a replacement door, we can arrange a free survey to take measurements and provide a door tailor-made for your property. Our trained installers have the expertise to ensure your new door is correctly fitted to your exact requirements.

Composite doors and why they dominate

Composite doors make up most of the front doors we fit around Alsager. A composite door is built around a solid core and finished with a hard weatherproof skin, so it stays square through a wet Cheshire winter instead of swelling and dropping like old timber.

Our clients often tell us security was the deciding factor, so we review multi-point locking, anti-snap cylinders, and what the doorset has been tested to before anyone signs. As a guide, a fitted composite front door usually lands between £1,200 and £2,200 depending on glazing and hardware, confirmed at survey.

Our sturdy composite front doors are supplied with approved high-security multi-locking systems for excellent security. They are also available in various colours and styles, so you can seamlessly integrate replacement doors into an existing scheme.

We are a recommended installer of Comp Door composite doors, the market leader in high-quality doors. Composite doors are tough and durable, offering advanced security options. The company offers over 250 colour combinations and a wide range of glazed, grooved and panel options.

We supply and fit uPVC doors

We still fit plenty of uPVC doors. For a back door, side entrance or utility room, uPVC doors offer good thermal performance and sound weather seals for noticeably less than a composite. Customers say they would rather put the extra budget into the front door everyone sees, and our work suggests that is a sensible way to split a whole house project.

uPVC doors offer great value for the money compared to traditional wooden doors. They are more thermally efficient, helping retain heat and feature effective sealant properties that improve energy efficiency. uPVC doors are reliable, long-lasting, and require virtually no maintenance.

Choose from a range of uPVC door designs, colours, and finishes to perfectly match your existing colour scheme and style. We take pride in helping customers choose the right uPVC doors from our extensive range of elegant options for domestic and commercial properties.

Patio doors, French doors and bi-folds

When people want more light, the conversation turns to patio doors. Sliding patio doors suit tighter rooms because nothing swings inwards; French doors suit older Alsager properties, and aluminium bi-folds open a whole wall. Client feedback suggests the low-threshold option settles the decision, because it makes the step outside easier with a pushchair or wheelchair.

Replacement doors and windows must meet current building regulations on energy performance and security, and we register every installation under FENSA, so you receive a certificate proving it. This helps us raise it at survey, because solicitors ask for it when a house is sold, and we have watched sales stall while the paperwork is chased.

FENSA is a government-authorised scheme that ensures compliance with building regulations for replacement windows and doors. Approved FENSA installers , such as Select Window Systems, are assessed regularly to maintain the highest industry standards.

How we quote for Alsager doors & windows

Every window and door we supply is made to measure, so we measure first and price afterwards. A dropped opening or a rotten frame changes the job, and we would rather find that at survey than on fitting day. Our clients tell us they value a clear written figure with no salesperson sitting in their kitchen, and that is how we have always worked.

We fit windows and doors in domestic and commercial properties throughout Alsager, including Scholar Green, Rode Heath, Radway Green and Kidsgrove, for shops and offices as much as homes, with a replacement fitting service second to none.

Our customers benefit from the company's excellent reputation for quality, price and efficient installation. Our experienced and expert staff can fit all types of internal and external doors, and we specialise in bi-fold and patio doors and windows.

Questions our Alsager customers ask

How much do replacement doors and windows cost?

We price every Alsager job after a survey, because no two openings are the same. As a rough guide, a fitted composite front door usually falls between £1,200 and £2,200, a uPVC back door sits below that, and a full house of uPVC windows depends far more on the number of openings and the glazing specification than on the postcode. Our clients often ask for a sense of the figure before anyone visits, so we are happy to talk through likely ranges on the phone first.

Do I need planning permission?

For most Alsager houses, no. Replacing windows with units of a similar appearance normally counts as permitted development, as the Planning Portal sets out. The exception matters locally. The Alsager Conservation Area was designated in 1981 and revised in 2004, covering Fields Road, Station Road and The Avenue, according to Alsager Town Council and the Cheshire East conservation area appraisals; on those streets, the council may take a view on materials and style. Alsager also contains eight listed buildings per Historic England's list, where listed building consent is required before any work. We can check the position at survey rather than leaving it to you.

Will my new windows need trickle vents?

Almost certainly yes. Since 2022, Approved Document F has required trickle vents on most replacement windows in England, even where the old frames had none, as FENSA explains. Customers often assume this means draughts, and in our experience, a controlled vent you can close is nothing like the gaps around a 20-year-old frame. We explain where they will sit at survey and fit them into the head of the frame so they stay out of sight.

Do I get a FENSA certificate for the work?

Yes. We are a FENSA-approved installer, so we register the installation, and your certificate confirms it meets building regulations and is recorded with the local authority. It helps us to raise this early, because solicitors ask for the certificate when a house is sold. The only alternative is retrospective building control approval, which FENSA's homeowner advice confirms is the fallback route, and it costs time and money that a registered installation avoids.

How long will the work take?

Manufacture is the longer part. Everything is made to measure, so expect a few weeks between survey and fitting day. On site, a single door is usually a morning, and a full house of windows normally takes two or three days, depending on the number of openings and access. We give you a date rather than a vague week because our clients tell us that is what they need to plan around us.

Should I replace all my windows at once or in stages?

Both approaches work. Doing the whole property in one visit costs less per opening and gives a consistent finish across the elevation. Staging the work over a couple of years spreads the cost, and many of our Alsager customers start with the front door and front windows, because that is the part they and the neighbours see every day. We'd push for doing it together where frames share a mullion or form part of a bay.

Composite or uPVC for a replacement front door?

If it is the main entrance, we usually point people towards a composite door. The solid core adds weight and helps it hold its shape, and the security hardware options are stronger. uPVC still earns its place on back doors, side entrances and utility rooms, where the savings are real, and the door is seen far less. Feedback from Alsager clients suggests very few regret spending more at the front and a little less at the back.

Is it worth repairing my old windows?

Sometimes, and we will tell you when. A failed hinge, a worn handle or one misted sealed unit is usually a repair. Once several units have misted, the frames have discoloured, or the locks are past spares, replacement gives better value and a far better energy performance. uPVC frames typically last 20 to 30 years, according to the Federation of Master Builders, so the age of the installation is a fair first guide.
